What if we told you that you can take photos of stars on your iPhone 14 by using the Night Mode feature? However, many people don’t know the capability of the Night Mode feature in their iPhone 14 as they are unaware of the requirements that are required to capture images of the glittering sky. Astrophotography is the term that is used to capture the images of astronomical objects, and areas of the night sky, including stars, planets, and nebulae. Though the iPhone 14 has limited capability compared to professional cameras, it can still do wonders.

Requirements to take Photos of Stars

For taking an Astrophoto you must find a dark location where there is no light pollution or light leaks. Download the Skyview app from the App Store to help you out in exploring the night sky. Lastly, you will need a tripod to keep the mobile stable.

Steps to Capture Photos of Stars

Firstly set the format of the image in ProRAW on your iPhone 14 to take a detailed shot of the night sky. Here are the steps to enable ProRAW on your iPhone 14:-

    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Click on Camera
    3. Select Formats on the top.
    4. Enable Apple ProRAW.
    5. Choose 48MP.

Now, set up your iPhone on the Tripod. Having a tripod is important as it helps in increasing the exposure time between 10 to 30 seconds. This is because the iPhone 14 can detect whether it is in motion or not. If you try to capture the image with your hands the default exposure time will only be one second which will result in a bad image. So, make sure you have a tripod.

Now follow the steps below after setting your Camera angle to the sky on the Tripod:

    1. Select Night Mode if not automatically selected.
    2. Select RAW on the top right corner of your screen.
    3. Keep the shooting time to 30 seconds.
    4. Try to press the shutter button as lightly as possible to avoid any movement of the phone. You can also press the button through your Apple Watch.
    5. Wait till the timer finishes the count.

That’s it, you will now be able to see the stars in the photo that you have taken on your iPhone 14. You can also edit the image in Adobe Lightroom to enhance the look of the photograph.

That’s all covered on how to take photos of stars on iPhone 14. If you found this tutorial helpful then please check out our guide on How to use iPhone 14 Camera as a Webcam, and How to Take or Click Long-Exposure Photo on iPhone 14 Camera.
