In the last few days, a modder named SpecterDev was able to jailbreak the PS5, by exploiting a WebKit vulnerability. Now, many people are wondering how to jailbreak the PlayStation 5 with the proper steps and whether it will also break the warranty of the console. Well, you will find out everything you need to know about this jailbreak, its dangers, and how to install it on your PS5 below.
Is It Possible to Jailbreak PS5?

Since the PS5 was launched in November 2020, many hackers have been trying to “jailbreak” the next-gen console of Sony. A true tradition for all new electronic devices, and in particular each new version of the console.
For the unversed, jailbreaking is the process of reverse engineering a jailbroken device. The purpose is usually to unlock the debug menus and to be able to use unauthorized software.
Now, after two years of waiting, the modder SpecterDev has just revealed its new jailbreak: an experimental exploit of the IPV6 kernel. This jailbreak depends on a WebKit vulnerability as an entry point, and therefore can only work on PS5 firmware prior to version 4.03.
This exploit was initially found 2 years ago by “TheFloW” on the PS4. The same user found the vulnerability again on PlayStation 5 and reported it to Sony in January 2022 for a $10,000 bounty. The vulnerability was revealed on the HackerOne site on September 20, 2021. Since then, the PS5 hacker community has been looking for a way to exploit this vulnerability to jailbreak the PS5.
To demonstrate the possibilities offered by this jailbreak, another modder named Lance MacDonald installed the famous demo of the game called Silent Hill P.T. by Hideo Kojima on his PS5. The video shows the user gaining access to the debug menu, and gaining the ability to install a PS4 PKG file containing a video game backup copy.
It's… beautiful.

Even on a console based on the correct firmware, SpecterDev specifies that its jailbreak only works 30% of the time. So it’s a very limited process at the moment. Anyway, modders and hackers will probably use this jailbreak to create a more elaborate method. So this is a starting point for the community

Will Jailbreaking PS5 Break Warranty?
Even though it is legal to jailbreak your PS5, but it does not mean that Sony will offer any kind of warranty for it. In the EULA for PlayStation 5, it is strictly mentioned that warranty won’t be covered for any kind of tampering with the device:
You may not lease, rent, sublicense, publish, modify, patch, adapt or translate System Software. You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble System Software, create System Software derivative works, or attempt to create System Software source code from its object code. You may not (i) use any unauthorized, illegal, counterfeit or modified hardware or software with System Software; (ii) use tools to bypass, disable or circumvent any PS5 system encryption, security or authentication mechanism.
SIE Inc may itself or may procure the taking of any action to protect its interests such as disabling access to or use of some or all System Software, disabling use of this PS5 system online or offline, termination of your access to PlayStation Network, denial of any warranty, repair or other services provided for your PS5 system.
