There is a display industry consultant called Ross Young, who has predicted that soon the future iPhones will be getting an under-display Face ID. Ross Young has a good track record when it comes to display-related information and many fans of Apple devices want to know when this new technology will be implemented on the future iPhones so that they can get a hands-on it as soon as possible. So, based on the details shared by this informant, let us see in this article when this Under-Display Face ID feature is coming on iPhone below.
iPhone: When is Under-Display Face ID Coming?
Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, and who has over 25 years of experience in the display industry, has stated that iPhone will get an under-display Face ID feature in 2024, but due to some “sensor issues”, the same function will be available on the Apple smartphone in 2025.
Under panel Face ID is now expected to be pushed at least a year to 2025 or later due to sensor issues.

Nowadays, there are iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max which are equipped with a dynamic island that makes room for sensors and a front camera, a portion of an LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) or ProMotion type display to put it to Apple, that is capable of varying the refresh rate of the screen between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. This feature is missing on the basic models of the Apple smartphone family, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and will also be missing on the next two generations of iPhone (15 and 16, and various variants). However, the LTPO displays will instead arrive on the 2025 iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus (Max or mini?) models, according to what was reported by the source who shared the roadmap in question (the analysts of Display Supply Chain Consultants).
Based on the technical challenges remaining for under panel cameras to meet discerning brands quality requirements as well as panel manufacturers' cost requirements, I still believe this roadmap makes sense for the iPhone. pic.twitter.com/3ck5X3sVcL

Also with regard to one of the other two aspects mentioned, the right moment should be 2025, the year in which Apple should bring the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max to the market with under-display Face ID. The hole would still be needed to house the front camera, but it is expected that two years later the most valuable models of the iPhone 19 will also integrate that element.
Therefore, the timeline seems quite clear: the most important years for the displays of future iPhones would therefore be 2025 (iPhone 17) and 2027 (iPhone 19), both for the basic models and for the more expensive ones. But we reiterate that it’s all to be taken with a grain of salt, of course.
That’s all there is to know about when is Under-Display Face ID coming on iPhone. In the meantime, do not forget to check out our comparison guide between iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro Max.
