How to Enable and Use Split Screen on Microsoft Edge (2023)

For a decade now, Google Chrome has been the user’s preferred browser of choice to surf the internet. But this is slowly changing with all the new updates that the Microsoft Edge browser is bringing to attract users. Nowadays, users prefer to download and install Microsoft Edge on their Chromebook devices for getting free Microsoft rewards while surfing. There’s also an ambitious internal project ‘Phoenix’ in Microsoft’s list that is expected to give a more customizable experience for the users while browsing on Microsoft Edge. One such feature is a Split screen that allows users to open two tabs simultaneously on the same screen, and this guide will teach you how to enable and use it on your Microsoft Edge browser.

Microsoft Edge: How to Enable and Use Split Screen (2023)

The new Split screen feature is currently in the testing phase. Hence, it isn’t released yet on the original Microsoft Edge version. However, you can still experience the Split screen feature on your Microsoft Edge Beta, Dev, and Canary builds. If you have installed the Microsoft Edge Canary or Beta version from Microsoft’s official website, you already completed the first step and after that follow these steps:

1. Enable Split screens on Microsoft Edge Canary

• Open the Microsoft Edge Canary version on your Windows desktop.
• Now tap on the ‘split screen’ icon on the top left of the toolbar. It will look like a rectangle parted in the middle by a line.
• A new tab will open on the other half of the screen.
• If you don’t find this option, you can also right-click on the web-address link and select the ‘open link in new split window’ option from the pop-up menu.
• You can adjust the split screen size by clicking on the partition slider and sliding it according to comfort.

2. Enable Split Screen on Microsoft Edge Dev or Beta

The Dev and Beta version of Microsoft Edge is more stable than Microsoft Edge canary. However, you cannot directly access the Split screen mode on Microsoft Edge Beta or Dev versions. Hence, here is the workaround to use split screen on Microsoft Edge Beta or Dev versions:

• Open your Microsoft Edge Beta or Dev version on your Windows desktop.
• Now click on the address bar and type the following path:

edge:/flags

• This will take you to the page where you can see all the experimental features in the recent Beta or Dev version. You can also use the above command on the Canary version to see all the experimental features of the latest update.
• Now type ‘Split’ on the search bar.
• Click the drop-down button next to the ‘Microsoft Edge Split Screen’ window and select the ‘Enable’ option.
• Now you can see the split screen icon on the toolbar, tap on it to open a new tab on the split screen view.
