As of now, the devs at Arrowhead Game Studio have acknowledged and working to resolve this error. So, we recommend updating the game to its latest version to apply any hotfixes. If that didn’t work out for you, we suggest trying out the below workarounds or solutions.
So, here’s how to fix the unable to join friends in Helldivers 2:
Restart the game
Being a classic workaround, you can try restarting the Helldivers 2 to resolve this error. As it worked out for some players, it might resolve the issue for you. However, you can try out the next workaround if that doesn’t fix the issue for you.
Verifying the Game Files Integrity
You can also encounter this issue due to missing or corrupted game files. Rather than reinstalling the game, you can try verifying the game files integrity to redownload those files.
- For that, launch the Steam Client > Right-click on Helldivers 2 under Library > Select the Properties > Local Files > Verify the game file integrity.
- If there’s an issue, it can take some time to complete the process.
- Once it’s done, launch the game to check if the issue persists.
Turn off the Crossplay
As stated by many players in the Steam Community and Reddit, disabling the crossplay support resolved the issue for them. So, you can try turning off the crossplay to check if that works out for you.

- Launch the Steam client and head to the Properties on the top.
- Select the General tab.
- Then, uncheck the “Enable Steam Overlay” option.
Asking a Friend For an Invite
If none of the above workarounds resolved the issue for you, we suggest asking a friend to invite you. For that, you can use your Friend’s code to join them. Currently, this is the only workaround that has been working out for the community.
