Are AirTags Waterproof?

Are AirTags Waterproof?

The short answer is yes, Apple AirTags are Waterproof to an extent. According to Apple’s official website, AirTags have an IP67 rating. This means they can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. Also, it means they are dust-resistant and can handle some dirt and sand. However, this does not mean that AirTags are completely waterproof. Note that the IP67 rating may decrease over time due to normal wear and tear. Moreover, some liquids may damage the AirTag or its battery, such as soap, detergent, acid, or food. Therefore, we advise avoiding exposing the AirTag to these substances and drying it thoroughly if it gets wet.

What is the IP67 rating?

IP rating, also known as Ingress Protection rating, is an international standard to rate the degree of protection of an electronic device against the intrusions like water or dust. IP67-rated electronic devices can withstand high-pressure water jets and temporary submersion at depths of up to one meter. This doesn’t mean that accessories attached to your AirTags like leather bags, keyrings, etc are water-resistant. So, in short, AirTags are resistant enough to water that you can attach them to your accessories and go on water sports like kayaking, fishing, rafting, etc. But it isn’t resistant enough to work after being submerged in water for a long time.
