Whether it is a Sony PlayStation video game disc or Microsoft Xbox or PC CD, like any other CD or DVD, it can be also damaged due to overuse or poor maintenance. If the video game disc has a scratch, then it might not work properly. However, if the scratch is light, then the problem can be corrected by following some procedures. But if there are deep cuts in the disc then they are irreversible and the only way to fix the problem is to buy a new copy of the game. In any case, in this guide, I will explain how to fix a scratched video game disc.
How to Fix a Scratched Video Game Disc Guide in 2023
Unfortunately, it may have happened to many gamers, sooner or later, to find themselves with a video game disc scratched, in a more or less serious way, and consequently unreadable for the player of their console or computer. So let’s see some little tricks to try to solve the problem.
Most of the scratches that can appear on the video game discs are usually small and can tend to be caused by a lack of attention on the part of the player himself to how the disc in question is kept, sometimes left resting on tables and desks without their own protective case. These kinds of small scratches can often be solved without consequences, in order to return to using the game without any more problems on the console or PC.
1. Wet cloth
Clean the underside of the CD. Take a damp cloth and wipe from the inner ring outwards. Cleaning the CD in a circular motion can force further obstruction of playback.
2. CD Repair kit
Use a CD repair kit for light scratches. These kits can be found in most electronics stores.
3. Soft and clean cloth
Clean the disc with a soft, clean cloth, then insert it into the gaming console or PC.
4. Toothpaste Method
The simplest method that you can try to use to repair your scratched disc is the one that involves the use of common toothpaste paste: first, therefore, get a tube of normal toothpaste – but be careful that it does not contain abrasive particles, otherwise you could risk even making the situation worse – and some gauze or clean cloths. First, gently wash the back of the scratched support under a thin stream of running water, then dry it and spread a small amount of toothpaste on it, being careful to carry out each step delicately and to cover well the area affected by the scratches.
After applying the toothpaste, let the disc rest for a few minutes, in order to give the paste time to set, then wash it again and dry it by dabbing it with a soft cloth. In case the damage reported by your disk is not too severe, the method just described should prove to be quite effective, and you should therefore be able to use the disk again within your console or your PC.
