We are well aware that, sooner or later, PS5 will have to deal with a new hardware console to complement the previous models. There has always been a change of models and, although PS5 is still difficult to buy at normal prices on various eCommerce sites, 2023 could really be the year of the revision.
New PS5 Hardware Reveal Teased by Sony VP
While obviously Sony is not officially unbuttoning itself, Famitsu reports a statement from a company spokesperson that new PS5 hardware could be revealed in 2023.
Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Sony’s Platform Experience division, said in an interview that next year there could be some new hardware on the sidelines. Although the most popular model may not be the Pro, but the famous version of the console with an external optical drive.
Nishino shared future plans for the PS5 platform, following a remark made by a reporter that the PS4 Pro released about three years after the release of the PS4, a time frame the PS5 will also live shortly.
Regarding the observation, the Sony spokesperson said:
“By the end of fiscal 2022, cumulative sales will exceed 37 million units, and we believe that it will be a very important time for the platform as well. I won’t be able to talk about specifics at this time, but I hope you will look forward to next year (2023).”
Obviously, this is not a confirmation of any kind, but it is equally true that Nishino wants to imply that in 2023 we will see a PS5 hardware update of some kind. It will also join PlayStation VR2, which will debut in 2023 bringing the new generation of Sony virtual reality hardware to the public.
