Cyberpunk 2077 Save File Gets Corrupted If It Becomes Too Big

The action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 has to contend with a problem that can lead to corrupted save files. Accordingly, the storage data must not exceed a certain size.

CD Projekt RED doesn’t get any rest either. After the action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 was removed from online stores last week and a new patch was made available for download at the weekend to make further improvements, the players drew attention to another huge problem.

Anyone remember the problems Bethesda Game Studios had with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on PlayStation 3? When the saved data grew to such a size over the course of the game that the performance of the role-playing game fell apart and it crashed regularly? Cyberpunk 2077 also has a similar problem with its save files. According to some players on Reddit, this should affect all platforms.

Accordingly, it can happen that the memory is damaged if it exceeds a size of 8 MB. However, in this case, you can no longer save them, so you lose all your progress. The memory level should especially increase if you manufacture a lot of objects. In addition, not all players are affected by the problem.

Nonetheless, GOG support has confirmed to a player that there is actually a limit to the size of the saved data. This limit could be increased with a future patch, but this is not intended to restore saved files that have already been damaged. In addition, it is advisable not to use a glitch to duplicate items and to fall back on a save state in which a corresponding glitch has not yet been used. So you should create a backup memory so as not to lose all progress if you run into this problem.

Since GOG is part of CD Projekt, it can be assumed that the support has some additional information on possible errors. Accordingly, you should currently pay attention to the size of your memory status or wait for a corresponding patch that eliminates the error. Since PC gamers, in particular, have reported the error so far, it is uncertain whether console gamers are also affected. But you can always be careful.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia since December 10, 2020, and is to receive further extensive updates in the coming months in order to solve the numerous technical problems.
