How to Install & Update your Mac to macOS Sonoma Beta?

The macOS Sonoma is the latest version of Apple’s operating system for Mac computers. It was announced alongside iOS 17 Beta, Vision Pro, Mac Studio with M2Max & M2 Ultra chipset, and more during the WWDC 2023 event. This new operating system offers many new features and improvements, such as a redesigned Safari browser, desktop widgets, live Screen Savers, presenter overlay, and more. However, the macOS Sonoma is in beta testing. Hence, before downloading the macOS Sonoma having a proper cloud storage backup is advised as the Beta version are tend to be unstable. If you have backed up your data you can proceed to update your Mac computer to macOS Sonoma Beta with the help of this guide.

How to Install macOS Sonoma Beta on Mac?

At current the macOS Sonoma is only available for Developer Beta users. So, if you are not a developer you will need to sign up for a Developer Beta account using your Apple ID from the Apple Developers webpage. If you already have a developer account signed in to your Mac, you can follow these steps to update to macOS Sonoma Developer Beta:

Firstly, Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > General > Software Update.

Now click the ‘i’ button next to the ‘Beta Updates’ tab.

Select the ‘MacOS Developer Beta’ option from the list and click the ‘Done’ button.

 

Finally, click the ‘Upgrade Now’ button, to install macOS Sonoma on your MacBook.

Before updating to macOS Sonoma, you need to make sure that your device is compatible. So, here’s the list of all compatible devices for macOS Sonoma:

  • MacBook Pro 2018 and later generations
  • Mac mini 2018 and later generations
  • MacBook Air 2018 and later generations
  • Mac Studio 2022 and later generations
  • iMac Pro 2017
  • Mac Pro 2019 and later generations
  • iMac 2019 and later generations

There’s no doubt that features like the desktop widget, moving screen savers and more macOS Sonoma is going to give a more personalized experience than macOS Ventura.
