Keepass allows you to store your password on your desktop or laptop. It is a highly secure password manager software designed to store all passwords in a single database. If you are having multiple email accounts, site logins, etc then you can use Keepass to track them all. It is still not recommended to store Bank passwords in such tools. No matter if you are using a multi-factor authentication tool like Keepass. For all other passwords, there is this free tool. Sadly the password manager comes for the Windows platform, and if you want it on Mac then try the steps below.

There are two ways to use Windows-based software on Mac systems. The first is via virtual machine software like Parallels Desktop and the second is by finding the exact alternative of the same. Both methods will let you have similar features. Long but the easy one is using virtual machine tools. It lets you install Windows on a Mac system and you can directly install Windows applications on Mac. Use them as you are using them on Windows 10.

    • Install Parallels on Mac and use Windows 10 One-click install.
    • Once the Windows setup is over, install Keepass by downloading it from the official site.

To use Keepass on Mac, you will have to first launch Parallel desktop. It will create a virtual Windows environment on the Mac system allowing you to run all windows based apps in it. If you are finding this tough then there is one more way. You can use a Keepass Mac alternative. Some of them are listed below. They are highly secure password manager apps, some are cloud-based while some work offline.

    1. MacPass: An unofficial version of Keepass for Mac. The problem with this tool is that it is outdated and will not be getting any updates.
    2. KyPass: Another alternative for Keepass, also comes with a Chrome/Firefox extension.
    3. LastPass: A highly secure cloud-based password manager. It comes in free and paid versions.
    4. Keeper: Want more features than password management, then try this one.
    5. Dashlane: Advance password manager with VPN and Dark Web Monitoring features.

Advanced users who want to try out more Windows-based apps on Mac operating system can always try virtual toolbox like Parallels desktop. But if you are looking to keep things simple then native apps that are designed and developed for Mac are a good alternative. Also if you are using a Cloud-based password manager that works directly via browser, you don’t really need to install anything. It works from an extension, like LastPass.
