The Parallels Desktop 17.1 for Mac is now available with full compatibility for MacOS Monterey as a host operating system, and also brings enhanced support for virtual machines with Windows 11.

As promised, thanks to the implementation of Virtual Trusted Platform Modules (vTPMs), the virtualization software offers automatic Windows 11 compatibility with Macs equipped with Intel or Apple Silicon chips — provided that owners of M1 Macs are using Insider Preview builds of Windows 11.

On Mac M1 equipped with Monterey, the management of Monterey virtual machines, which was very rudimentary, has been improved: you can copy and paste between the client and the host, and the default size of the virtual machine disk (VM) increased from 32 to 64 GB.

According to Parallels, Virtual TPM simplifies the creation of new installations of Windows 11 as well as system upgrades and updates. For new Windows 10 VMs created on M1 Macs, a virtual TPM is added automatically. Note that when a TPM is added to the virtual machine, Windows Secure Boot is automatically activated.

Finally, Parallels Desktop 17.1 fixes many problems, in particular the one that prevented you from upgrading a Windows 10 VM to Windows 11 and graphical issues in several Windows games (World of Warcraft, Metal Gear Solid V, etc).

Parallels Desktop has moved to a subscription model, which means the Standard Edition costs $80 a year — while the Pro and Business versions are available for $100/year. Those who purchased a lifetime license of a previous version of Parallels Desktop can upgrade it for the US $50. You can also download a trial version of Parallels Desktop 17.1 for Mac Monterey for a 14-day trial period from here.

That is everything you need to know about Parallels Desktop for macOS Monterey. While you are here, do not forget to check out how to downgrade macOS Monterey to Big Sur and other macOS 12 Monterey Guides right now.
