In the Apple catalog, we find a small, but valuable device that can help us track any belonging: the AirTag. But, at this point, a clear question may arise: Are Apple AirTags waterproof? There is no doubt that being able to find any object is a great relief. Either because we have forgotten, or because we have suffered a robbery. On the other hand, it may not be intentional, but it is possible that the accessory may come into contact with water. Well, in this article, we will explain whether AirTag works under water or not in detail below.

Does AirTag Works Under Water (2023)

The short answer is Yes, Apple AirTags are waterproof. Apple knows that this type of device has to be really durable. That is why it has endowed the AirTag with a resistance to water and dust with an IP67 rating. This means that the Apple tracker can withstand most splashes and can be submerged up to one meter for up to 30 minutes. Of course, the lid must be well placed to seal the interior.

The company states that the tests have been carried out under control in a laboratory according to the IEC 60529 standard. Apple itself warns that water resistance is not a “permanent condition” and, furthermore, that “it could decrease as a result of normal wear and tear”.

Therefore, if the AirTag is hit with water it may lose its seal. In other words, you have to be careful when using it. It may be a good idea to think about purchasing a protective cover. And even if you know that it may be in contact with water or dust, put it in a sealed plastic bag to prevent water from getting inside.

    Steps to dry your AirTags

If even with caution your AirTag has gotten wet, all that is needed in most cases is to remove the battery and dry the exterior with a soft cloth. That should prevent the liquid from damaging the components. However, what we do not recommend under any circumstances is that you use something similar to a hair dryer since the heat could damage the seal or the circuitry.

If you are concerned that the water has already passed the seal, follow these recommendations:

    • Remove the battery cover by pressing down on it, then turning counterclockwise until it stops.
    • Separate the cover, body, and battery, allowing them to air dry for several hours. You may be able to speed up the process with silica bags.
    • When you are done, reassemble the AirTag, making sure to hear a tone when the battery is pushed into its slot. That means the battery is connected, which is a good clue that the AirTag is still working.

That’s all you need to know about whether AirTag works under water or not. In the meantime, do not forget to check out similar types of guides here: How to Share AirTag Location with Family, and What Does “AirTag Detected Near You” Notification Mean?
