If you had purchased the game from Steam then repairing the game files will fix the issue. But before that, it is necessary to back up Sims 5 Save Game Files.

  • Go to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves
  • Copy the entire Save Folder on your Desktop.
  • Then Launch Steam and right-click on the Sims 4.
  • Go to Properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.

After the Steam launcher checks everything and replaces the damaged file, restore the Save Game folder to its original location. Restart your PC once and launch Sims 4. The game will launch as it was before, and if this bug appears again then retry the same thing. If you have good internet speed then re-installing Sims 4 will fix this issue. The error occurs due to damaged game files.

Reset Sims 4 to Factory Settings without Re-installing

  • Go to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4
  • Rename theSims4 folder to theSims4_backup.
  • Launch the game and a new Sims 4 folder will be created in Documents\Electronic Arts\.

You will lose all your customization, just check if the game is working properly. Check out all settings, start a new game, and try out all the features. If all is well then copy the content of theSims4_backup folder to the new theSims4 folder. Reboot your system once and launch the game.
