According to reports, in fact, in recent days some job advertisements have appeared online which suggest that the next game in the Mafia series will be set in completely new locations.
Hangar 13 has started looking for senior 3D environment artists who focus on “organic art & landscapes, Unreal engine.” The announcement goes on to say that the artist will need to be able to create “assets for a AAA game in a large-scale virtual environment with the focus on organic models.”
The announcement continues: “He/she defines, develops, and maintains high-end-run game environments and contributes to the new Mafia franchise game.” Therefore, it seems confirmed that these people will be hired to work on a game in the Mafia series for sure.
However, the keywords of the discussion are two, namely “organic models.” If Mafia 4 were set in a single city, there probably wouldn’t be as much focus on creating organic 3D models.
