The official announcement of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus arrives right on time, the two new smartphones in the standard series that join the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max variants. The main new feature is the Dynamic Island, initially reserved for the Pro models. Check out the price, specs, release date, and more of iPhone 15 and 15 Plus smartphones below.
iPhone 15 and 15 Plus Features
The two new devices of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus lineup keep the display dimensions unchanged compared to their direct predecessors. So, the iPhone 15 offers a 6.1-inch screen, while the Plus model has a larger 6.7-inch screen.
As anticipated, the main difference on a visual level, the one that immediately catches the eye, is the presence of Dynamic Island, the display content that Apple introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro. The front camera and the sensors for Face ID, with the possibility that this black bar expands depending on the apps and services running on the iPhone.
In this Dynamic Island, you can see playback controls, check the scores of sporting events or follow navigation directions. The viewing experience will be even better on the Super Retina display XDR display, which now reaches 1600 nits and 2000 in outdoor mode.
It will be available in the new colors announced previously, all very subtle. The two new devices, Apple explains, are comfortable to hold, both more comfortable in the hand thanks to the new aerospace aluminum edge.
iPhone 15 and 15 Plus Camera
The new iPhone 15 and 15 Plus offer a 48MP main camera with a quad-pixel sensor and 100% Focus Pixels. Additionally, the camera supports a new 24MP super-high resolution and thanks to hardware and software integration, an additional 2x telephoto option offers three types of optical quality zoom (0.5x, 1x, 2x) for the first time on a dual camera system on iPhone.
As far as portraits are concerned, according to Apple, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will return more vibrant colors and better performance even in low light. For the first time, it is possible to take photos of this kind without enabling Portrait mode.
This means that it will be enough to frame a person, a dog, or a cat, or tap to focus: the iPhone will automatically capture the depth information, so you can transform the photos into portraits later in the Photo app. The 48MP main camera offers a 26mm focal length and f/1.6 aperture with OIS support.
iPhone 15 CPU
iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have the A16 Bionic processor already appreciated on the iPhone 14 Pro, which will also allow the Dynamic Island, computational photography functions, and more to be powered in the best possible way.
The processor has 2 performance cores for 20% energy savings and four high-efficiency cores, with a 6-core CPU that is faster than the previous generation.
The 5-core GPU has 50% more memory bandwidth and the new 16-core Neural Engine is capable of performing almost 17,000 billion operations per second: this enables more varied functions, such as on-device experiences. These include the transcriptions of the Secretariat live on iOS 17.
iPhone 15, in terms of connectivity, offers the second-generation ultrawide band chip which allows you to connect three times further away and find friends with greater precision while being guided directly by them.
iPhone 15 also improves phone calls: now the audio quality increases with the new machine learning algorithm which gives priority to the voice and eliminates everything else, making the environment quieter.
