How to Sign PDF Documents on iPhone & iPad

With iPhones and iPads, you can easily sign a contract or PDF document on the fly in a matter of seconds. Sooner or later it happens to everyone to receive a contract or documentation to be signed and returned to the sender. On Mac it’s very easy: just use Preview and the Mac Trackpad. On iOS, however, you will have to use the integrated image editing functions. In this guide, I will show you how to sign PDF documents on iPhone and iPad.

On your iPhone and iPad, it is possible to sign PDF documents in a few simple steps. You do not even have to install any kind of application in particular, as it is a function available natively within the Apple operating system. Below, I will explain to you how to sign a PDF document on iPhone and iPad.

Sign PDF Documents on iPhone and iPad via the Files app

If the PDF document you want to sign is saved inside your Apple device, then you can sign it through Apple’s Files application. This app contains all the files downloaded or otherwise saved on your smartphone or tablet. Once the document is located, all you have to do is carry out these simple procedures given below:

  • First, select the PDF document within the File App.
  • Touch the “+” icon and select the item “Signature”.
  • Sign using a compatible finger or stylus.
  • Click on Done once you are satisfied with the signature.
  • You will be able to resize and move the signature even after affixing it to the document. By long-pressing on it, you can also delete or duplicate it.
  • Finally, tap on “Done” to save the changes.

It is to be noted that once the signature is saved, it cannot be deleted. So make sure to duplicate the file before signing.

Sign PDF documents on iPhone and iPad via the Mail app

If you have received a PDF document by email that you want to sign, then you can digitally sign it directly via Apple’s Mail application. Let’s find out how:

  • First of all, open the PDF document within the Mail app that you want to sign.
  • Select the Markup icon (the one with a pencil tip at the top right) and then on the “+” symbol at the bottom right.
  • Select the “Signature” option to create or insert a previously saved signature.
  • After resizing and placing the signature on the document, click on Finish to save the changes.
