Spider-Man 2 Features 30, 40 and 60 FPS Modes, All with Ray Tracing

When Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was launched at the beginning of the generation, it was known that the game focused on two graphics modes: one in native 4K and with a controlled frame rate to favor the use of ray tracing, the other that rendered at a lower resolution, favoring 60 fps and deactivating ray tracing. For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, also thanks to the updates then made to Miles Morales, a new way has been found, which will allow the game to have different options for the frame rate, but they all include active ray tracing and there will be no need to deactivate it to have 60 fps. It was recently made known directly by Insomniac Games with a post on Twitter by communications director James Stevenson explaining that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have “30 fps, 40 fps, and 60fps. All with ray-tracing.”

Mike Fitzgerald (game technology director) also highlighted this on the pages of IGN, where he explained that there is no graphics mode in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 where ray tracing is deactivated. “There’s no mode of this game that has the ray tracing turned off, no need for it. We’ve really figured out how to deliver what we feel like is the right Spider-Man visuals and we want to make sure every player is seeing that,” Fitzgerald said.

In short, according to Fitzgerald, the set of effects and graphic details made it possible to create the photography that the authors wanted to achieve, and for this reason, a balance was sought that would allow playing fluidly even with ray tracing always active, to achieve also enrich rays of light and reflections.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be available from October 20th on PlayStation 5.
