According to information released by Jeff Grubb during the latest episode of his GrubbSnax show, the new Need for Speed will be released in November 2022. However, it would only come out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, being the first step by EA and Criterion Games to produce games exclusively designed for the next generation of consoles.

“Need for Speed is still coming this year… that’s true, that game should be coming in November,” Grubb said. “If you are a Need for Speed fan who has bought a next-gen console, here’s some news; it’s next-gen only. They are shifting to next-gen only.”

It has been almost three years since a title in the Need for Speed series has been released, because in 2021 EA designated Criterion Games as a support studio for the development of Battlefield 2042, delaying the production of a title of this racing franchise that was supposed to launch in 2020.

Another of the revelations that Grubb mentioned was that the setting for this title will be Miami, without going into detail about it. The possibility that this game is not cross-generational could mean that Criterion focused on developing it to take full advantage of the technologies that the recent generation of consoles can offer.

“There [are] rumors about what the setting is that I’ve heard,” Grubb declared. “It’s hard to pin down if these are for sure or not. I’ve heard stuff like Miami, which makes me think maybe they’ll go an Underground route. That could be leaps of logic I’m making.”

The above could be a great take for EA to compete with the enormous success that Forza Horizon 5 had and take advantage of the setback that Gran Turismo 7 had in its first weeks of release. Meanwhile, we will have to wait for an official statement from the developers.
